What are the possibilities to make your booth even more attractive to create a perfect consulting atmosphere? One word: green plants. These beautiful decorative items are at the same time natural, sustainable and fit with almost any type of design and materials. Besides, they optimize the room acoustics and promote human well-being on a psychological and physical level. Why the greening at the booth is a fantastic idea, or how it can be implemented, we show in this article.

How a green exhibition stand contributes to success

There are many ways to stand out on a busy trade show floor. Exhibitors often outdo each other with ingenious room concepts, technical innovations or special giveaways. But it doesn’t always have to be the most expensive technologies or custom-made stand furniture – although these can definitely contribute to success.

By using green plants as decorative elements, exhibitors have a relatively uncomplicated and inexpensive way of making their exhibition stand look appealing and at the same time setting an example for the environment.

In contrast to metal constructions, plastic elements or other materials used in trade fair construction, plants have a clear advantage: they are a natural and sustainable way of designing a trade fair stand. In this way, they also indirectly contribute to environmental protection and offer exhibitors the opportunity to sharpen their sharpen focus on sustainability.

The effect of green plants on the psyche

Anyone who brings a piece of nature into their home or workplace in the form of houseplants does so with good reason: the positive effects of plants have already been proven in numerous scientific studies. They not only have a relaxing and stimulating effect at the same time, but also reduce stress and anxiety and increase well-being.

In addition to these desirable effects on the psyche, plants have also been shown to improve the indoor environment by filtering CO2 and substances such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethane, which can harm people in high doses, from the air and converting them into oxygen. This is particularly important because the air indoors – due to electrical appliances, wall paint or furniture varnish – is often contaminated with more pollutants than the air outside. In addition, the colour green has a calming and balancing effect in general – but especially in its most natural form as plants – and promotes creativity.

So spending time in nature, the sight of woods and meadows, makes us more efficient, optimistic and happy. A large british study, for example, was able to prove that people who live in nature or close to green spaces rate themselves significantly happier than residents of areas far from nature.

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be a house on the edge of a forest: Greening also works in the urban four walls, the office or at the trade fair stand – and the positive effects of nature can also be used very well there.

4 current trends for greening at the trade fair stand

1. vertical greening

Green plants, as room dividers or living decoration of the walls, have already found their way into many modern office spaces. To promote motivation, creativity and well-being of employees, but are equally well suited for the exhibition stand. Besides hanging plants, the so-called Green Wall is considered by connoisseurs as the measure of all things. These vertical gardens are a centerpiece of biophilic design (biophilia = love of living things) and can be moved and rearranged as mobile elements at will.

2. spot greening

Those who prefer a more mobile and discreet look can simply rely on selective natural accents in the form of potted plants for the greenery at the trade fair stand; Placed individually or grouped together, the green eye-catchers visually enhance any building structure. Particular attention is paid to the arrangement of different sizes and varieties, the choice of contrasting or harmonious shades and the choice of vessels.

3. ceiling greening

Especially in exhibition halls there is usually a lot of space upwards, but the view upwards is not always attractive; Here, hanging plants that dangle from mounted beams or entwine themselves along taut ropes/chains provide a bit of a jungle feel.

4. greened floor structures

Geometric elements on which plants are placed accentuated – this trend in phyto design is especially suitable for smaller rooms, where the green decoration should become a statement. A special highlight: By cleverly selecting and arranging the plants, not only can certain patterns be created, but even lettering or your own logo can be depicted in a natural way.

Suitable plant species for greening at the exhibition stand

Aesthetics is a very individual thing. And just as diverse as the subjective perception of beauty is the selection of plant varieties that lend themselves to greening at the trade fair stand.

But if you focus on functionality instead of beauty, the picture becomes clearer. The following green helpers, for example, are considered particularly industrious when it comes to improving the indoor climate:

  • Ferns: They are among the oldest land plants at all and are correspondingly robust and undemanding in location and care. Moreover, they are particularly industrious when it comes to improving the indoor climate.
  • Mosses: It doesn’t get much more uncomplicated than moss. Here, neither elaborate irrigation nor additional lighting are necessary, but moss has excellent qualities for room acoustics, exists in a variety of rich green tones and brings the unmistakable feeling of forest to any location.
  • Green lily: an evergreen jack-of-all-trades that also doesn’t need much water. The green lily filters many harmful substances from the room air and spreads a relaxed atmosphere through its dense growth.
  • Ivy: The common ivy is rather inconspicuous, but with its dark green tendrils takes a top place among indoor plants with air-purifying effect. Its special superpower: In addition to the pollutants already mentioned, ivy also cleans the indoor air of unhealthy mould spores.

What should not be overlooked at all in greening is the question of local (light) conditions and care. Because an imposing arched hemp can be as beautiful as it is – if the leaves wilt because no one has time to water them, or change colour because no rays of sunlight get through in the exhibition hall, then the greenery is failing in its purpose – namely to enliven the exhibition stand and create a feel-good atmosphere.

Fortunately, you don’t necessarily have to invest a lot of your own know-how and time to integrate plants into a trade fair stand concept. And even when space is limited, a green solution can be found:

Conclusion: greening at the trade fair stand is not only ecologically sensible

Plants can transform a conventional exhibition stand into something lively and, in addition to positive psychological effects, also contribute to a better indoor climate. They are also a great way to use sustainable, natural materials in trade fair construction and can be used again and again as living decoration.

The concept of the circular economy is one of the most important global trends of recent years and is inextricably linked to the quest for greater sustainability. But what exactly is meant by the “circular economy” and what significance does the new production model have for trade fair construction? We answer these and other questions in our article.

What is the circular economy all about?

Circular economy is an approach to resource utilization. It aims to reduce the amount of waste generated, on the one hand, and, on the other, to reuse seemingly “spent” products as a resource in a circular economy. Materials and resources thus do not end up in a landfill or incineration plant, but are fed back into the production process at the end of their life cycle.

Succinctly summarized, the idea of the circular economy pursues three goals:

  1. The reduction of the existing waste load
  2. The improvement of environmental protection
  3. Increasing resource efficiency (maintaining the value of the resource)

Implementing these principles on a global scale means a significant reduction in worldwide demand for raw materials – and thus a major step toward climate neutrality.

The circular economy as a way to rethink resource use.

The difference from linear economy

The contrast to the circular economy is the traditional, “linear economy”: Here, products are first manufactured, then used and finally disposed of, often simply incinerated. The life cycle thus has a clear beginning and end and must, with each use, start again from zero. The circular economy emancipates itself from this concept and instead strives for a closed – and continuously ongoing – cycle. In this, the raw materials are recycled to generate new products. The main methods to achieve this goal are conservation of the resource (e.g. repair), reuse of products, upcycling or downcycling, and recycling.

Application of the circular economy in trade fair construction

The concept of using resources, materials and products more effectively is supported by three fundamental pillars or principles. In the following section, we briefly present these and give practical examples of how the circular economy can already be realized in exhibition stand construction today.

Reduce

The first principle of the circular economy is reduction. This concerns both the amount of waste produced and the resources used in the production process. For implementation, the complete product and material development of a company must be adapted so that the goods can have the necessary quality and service life.

Example in exhibition stand construction: Precise planning and creative stand design can ensure that exhibition stands take up only the space needed to fulfill their basic functions. The use of high-quality and more sustainable materials also helps to noticeably reduce the amount of resources required for stand construction – and reduce the burden on the environment.

Rental furniture as an example of circular economy in trade fair construction

Reuse

The second principle involves the maximum possible reuse of products and resources. Dies kann sowohl mittels Reparatur als auch durch Upcycling oder Refurbishing gewährleistet werden. By using these methods, existing products are returned to the use cycle and a longer service life is ensured.

Example in trade fair construction: Furniture and furnishings contribute extensively to the ambience of a trade fair stand – and can underline the sustainable orientation of an exhibitor. From using restored furniture pieces to using upcycled fishing nets as elegant carpeting, the options here for improving your environmental footprint are as numerous as they are appealing.

Recycle

Recycling materials is the third principle of the circular economy. In order to create new products, used objects are broken down into their individual components, or raw materials, after use and reprocessed. This approach reduces both the consumption of materials and the need for new raw materials.

Example in exhibition stand construction: The use of recyclable materials for an exhibition stand makes it possible that the resources used can later be used again in other stands. SYMA followed this principle at an early stage and relied on aluminum, which has a recycling rate of 90%, for its system profiles.

Conclusion – reduction through innovation

As has been shown, the circular economy encompasses all aspects of the production of goods and the use of resources. Its principles and goals are not short-term “trends”, but steps that are necessary in the long term and affect all sectors of the economy – including trade fair construction. To be able to implement these demands, far-reaching adjustments are required: From production & assembly to logistics & catering and waste management – all aspects must follow a holistic concept.

We are convinced that these changes are necessary and that reduction does not mean abandonment, but first and foremost innovation and a focus on the essentials. Through new ideas and optimism, we can achieve this goal as a society – and realize a system that is equally good for the environment, people and businesses.

Curious about trends? Then hopefully you haven’t missed EuroShop 2023 in Düsseldorf. The world’s largest retail trade show is known for being the birthplace of innovation and a signpost for the future of the industry. SYMA has a long and successful history with the event, to which another very special chapter was added this year. The following is a short review of five days full of amazement and fair happiness.

The most important trade fair for the retail

After three years, EuroShop returned to the Düsseldorf exhibition halls larger than ever. And the trade audience had clearly been eagerly awaiting this new edition: More than 81,000 interested visitors, 68 percent of them from abroad, made the journey to the Rhine. This year, there was particularly lively interest from the retail sector, whose representatives accounted for over 50 percent of the visitors.

1,830 exhibitors were pleased about the lively interest and the intensive personal exchange. This year, in addition to the topics of smart shopping, connected retail, seamless shopping and customer centricity, the focus was particularly on sustainability and the question of how the many facets of retail can be designed in a more climate-friendly way. The exhibiting companies had numerous creative approaches at the ready and were able to show all visitors how well commitment to climate protection can be linked to memorable storytelling.

The SYMA booth at EuroShop was impressive.

SYMA as innovation driver at EuroShop

It was precisely this sustainability claim and the fact that exhibition stand space is not everything that SYMA was able to impressively demonstrate in Hall 1. The concept of this year’s showroom was much more compact, but managed to make a big impression thanks to smart equipment and technical innovation. Not least, of course, because of the news presented.

Around 18,000 visitors reached the SYMA booth and many did not miss the chance to attend the presentation of SYMA’s brand new 3D-immersive-live technology which was demonstrated for the first time at EuroShop 2023. Those who could not be on site saw via Instagram live feed and marveled at the limitless possibilities that the new projection technology opens up for product presentations.

That was EuroShop - with a glittering evening event.

The culinary-social experience was also not neglected. From catering at the booth which scored points with regionality and fine delicacies, to the well-attended evening event where people could celebrate, eat and network as they pleased.

Incidentally, in addition to its own stand, SYMA was also responsible for a whole six other exhibition sites at EuroShop 2023. We are particularly pleased that our partners – among others from SALTO Systems GmbH , AMERSEC and the Pyramid Computer GmbH – were satisfied and were able to shine with the stand design with their own clientele.

This was the Euroshop with 6 additional stands of SYMA.

“Still standing” – the trade fair industry is not letting itself be defeated

EuroShop 2023 showed one thing very clearly: the energy crisis, political turbulence, even several years of pandemic and the accompanying restrictions cannot throw the trade public and exhibitors off track.

SYMA’s CEO Marco Steg is very confident about the success of the event:

Everyone’s talking about recession – but we’re just not going along with it! At EuroShop 2023, we were able to welcome a large number of visitors and hold promising discussions. Despite the tense geopolitical situation and well-known challenges such as price increases, energy shortages and staff shortages, SYMA’s sales have returned to pre-Covid levels. Therefore, for us, literally and figuratively, the tenor is: “I’m still standing – we can’t be defeated”. My conclusion of EuroShop: A strong sign of life for the trade fair industry!”

Comprehensive advice at the SYMA booth at EuroShop.

Conclusion: A signpost for the future

As proof of the resilience and vitality of the industry, EuroShop 2023 will therefore be talked about for a long time to come. Even when the trends and innovations presented have reached the end customers and new ideas are already being worked on. In three years’ time it will be that time again, and one thing we already know: the world’s largest retail trade show will definitely be worth a visit in 2026 as well.

The development of new goods and services requires a lot of heart, creativity and time. But in order to arouse your customers’ interest in these products, the offers must also be presented in a visually appealing way. At EuroShop 2023 (February 26 to March 02 at Messe Düsseldorf), we will show you our contribution to the product presentation of the future at our booth (Hall 1/Booth A58). For those who are particularly interested in this topic, we have already summarized the most important possibilities and opportunities for the product presentation of the future in this article.

New opportunities of epochal proportions

The distribution paths of numerous companies have been subject to major changes in recent years. It is therefore not surprising that trade fairs and other events are increasingly relying on digitization and hybrid presentation. At many trade fairs, interested parties, exhibiting companies and other players can “tune in” via the Internet to experience the event live. But not directly on site, but conveniently via smartphone, tablet or laptop.

Key keynote speakers present on digital screens from all corners of the globe. Digital trade show maps and beacons direct trade show visitors to the booth of their choice and provide them with important trade show info in real time on their cell phones. All this saves important resources such as costs or time and significantly increases efficiency. While these options are already a reality, technologies like VR and AR offer untapped potential for the product presentation of the future.

3D kitchen in the product presentation of the future

VR, AR & Co: The product presentation techniques of the future

Virtual showrooms or augmented reality – vocabulary that sounds like science fiction, but has not been fiction for some time. Here we briefly present what these new “realities” in product presentation are all about:

3D presentation:

3D as a concept is no longer an unknown factor, cinemas have already made it commonplace for us. In the world of product presentation, three-dimensional visualizations are familiar, for example, from kitchen manufacturers who use them to transport their customers into the individualized world of their future furniture. In this way, products that are too large to display or too individual for final production can be easily displayed digitally and viewed from all angles. Not science fiction, but still vivid and effective.

Virtual Reality (VR):

Virtual reality refers to the complete simulation of an existing environment. The person experiencing the experience is completely immersed in the virtual event, usually through the use of “VR glasses”, or headphones and headset, which completely cover the eyes. The real environment is thus completely blanked out. This allows the person experiencing products and services to get up close and personal and true to reality – or deliberately fictional. Special setups, such as those used with the SYMA BLACKBOX, enable a comparable experience even without the use of glasses, allowing customer conversations face-to-face.

Augmented Reality (AR):

Unlike VR, a user in AR is not completely encompassed by a virtual world. She or he still perceives the real environment, while certain virtual elements “extend” this environment. For example, for apps that revise live selfies with makeup or set a suitable package size completely without wasting resources. In this way, products that offer many different customization options can be easily and clearly presented to your customers.

The SYMA Blackbox as product presentation of the future

Due to our desire for fresh approaches and a sustainable focus, our Expert:innen have combined different technologies and developed a new, special way of product presentation for trade fair appearances. We would like to showcase these for the first time at EuroShop 2023 in Düsseldorf – and you can follow along via Instagram be there live! If you are unable to attend the, soon to be announced, unveiling, you can read all about it in detail in a blog article about the innovative concept later. Until then we will keep you up to date on our exclusive EuroShop page.

Here we show you the main advantages of both types.

The post Rent or buy an exhibition stand? These are the advantages you should consider appeared first on SYMA.

A successful trade fair appearance often involves a great deal of effort. Not only must personnel be available and trained, but suitable advertising materials should also be available and products and innovations ready. A major cost item is usually the trade show booth itself. In the course of all these considerations, the question quickly arises as to whether you should rent or buy your trade show booth. With SYMA, both options are available to you, depending on your preference and applicability. In this article, we have summarized the main advantages of both types of procurement for you.

Money before calculator in deciding whether to rent or buy exhibition stand

Variant 1: Rent a stand

Those who are not sure whether they want to rent or buy the trade fair stand should think carefully in advance about the objectives of the trade fair stand, how often it is to be used and how much the external appearance of the brand, the products themselves or the messages to be conveyed require a change.

Advantages of renting:

  • variable: Companies that need a different booth concept for each trade show participation and whose CI and design change frequently should consider the option of renting the booth. Custom-made products or consistent CI elements that are always reused can, of course, also be purchased separately and integrated into the respective concept.
  • flexible: If you are a company that does not yet know for sure whether you will have another trade show appearance in the same look, the rental option keeps you flexible and independent for the time being. After the event, the rented material is returned to the stand builder’s inventory.
  • Service costs: No storage costs, no maintenance costs, no own transport costs. All services are included in the rental option.
  • practical: If the rental is accompanied by organization and assembly and dismantling of the stand by the stand construction expert, it is all the easier for the exhibitor to focus on his core competence and the presentation.
  • sustainable elements : Exhibition stands thrive on elaborate and individual design, which is why a lot of material is often consumed, especially in this industry. SYMA’s rental elements are increasingly being manufactured in such a way that they can be reused in other exhibition stands. This is done by a standardized grid of components, such as profiles, filling elements and other common parts. Thus, graphic elements such as logos or printed textiles can be recurrently included in the booth design, as long as the technical condition of these allows it.

Variant 2: Buy exhibition stand

In some cases it is better for a company to buy the exhibition stand or certain fixed modules from it. This decision is related to the respective goals of the planned trade fair appearances and the exhibiting company’s offer. Each exhibitor must decide for himself in which area the priorities lie. Should the trade fair stand be as inexpensive as possible, calculated for frequent use? How often is the design changed? What are the characteristics and shapes of the stand spaces at the different trade fair venues? Does the company have the capabilities and personnel to set up the booth on its own initiative? Are there storage facilities in the company? etc.

Advantages of purchase:

  • constant appearance: The trade fair stand design and thus the brand image remain with a purchased trade fair stand for a longer period of time. Especially with traditional and less dynamic brands and target groups, this is an advantage and can be seen as a recognition feature.
  • Cost allocation: Buying a trade show booth can save you money in the long run. With a purchased exhibition stand, you invest in the future for several years and save on recurring costs. If many internal specialists actively help with set-up and dismantling, this can also save costs.
  • stable value: A purchased stand also has the advantage that it can be used several times a year and for many years to come.
  • Sustainability: Buying an exhibition stand makes it more worthwhile to opt for higher-quality, reusable materials from the outset – such as those used by our specialist Green Stands offer. The repeated and recurring use of the exhibition material and components helps to protect the environment by conserving resources.

Conclusion: Buy or rent an exhibition stand?

Here are some tips and questions to consider in the process of deciding whether to buy or rent your next trade show booth:

  1. Weigh the advantages of both options. Do a cost-benefit analysis.
  2. Answer the questions: How often do you use your booth? How do you want to present yourself and your products? Do you want to show something new at every trade show and thereby also alternate your appearance and messages?
  3. Calculate the costs for both options and weigh them against each other.
  4. Do not just choose the short-term cheaper option, but also pay attention to two factors: environmental friendliness and practicality.

In our last blog article, we already told you about EuroShop, the largest retail trade fair in Düsseldorf. Every three years since 1966, it has attracted visitors and international trade customers from all over the world. Since then, a lot has happened, both the event itself and its exhibitors and visitors:inside have evolved. This is how SYMA has grown, and over the years we have always adapted our appearance and our objectives to current measurement trends and customer needs.

The beginnings for SYMA at EuroShop

In 1972 SYMA was represented at EuroShop for the first time and since then we have never missed an event. A special appearance of the first years: In 1984 we presented our innovative way of working through large tinted glass panes. Anodized bronze and gold aluminum profiles were used to showcase our outstanding craftsmanship. Three years later, SYMA surprised at EuroShop with eye-catching design thanks to an unforgettable igloo, constructed with SYMA-MONDO. In 1993, we went high and built a two-story structure with the new SYMA-ORBIT.

The EuroShop at the turn of the millennium

Before the turn of the millennium, we adapted to the technically advanced world and showed at EuroShop 1999 our, by then already large and diversified, SYMA universe. The various profile systems were realized visually and modern. The two-story round structure was largely made of glass and was artistically combined with our system technology. In keeping with the SYMA product universe and futuristic orientation, the visuals were reminiscent of a space station.

SYMA at the EuroShop in the years 2002- 2011

Also in 2002 we started with innovative novelties and gave the SYMA booth a new design with the new SYMA-MOLTO construction element. Height-adjustable, printed sail surfaces in various transparencies were used for this purpose.

Thanks to the fast-moving trade fair market, we were once again able to present many innovations in Düsseldorf three years later. Among them were our new structural beams for large-area design and the patented SYMA latch closure technology. For the first time, the topic of sustainability became relevant and we presented new materials, as well as modern facade techniques for easy handling and effective design.

The following two years we used the EuroShop to present our new product designs to the market. A classic that is still popular today was our James Bond style booth in 2008. SYMA-MOLTO 150 with a cladding of transparent sails was used for this purpose.

In 2011, we showed the size and modernity of the SYMA Group with a two-story pavilion and sprawling glass bodies. Despite an eye-catching exterior, we always attached great importance to the interior of our booth as well. It was always especially important to us to create space to feel comfortable with plenty of seating options.

Expertise in system and trade fair construction on the global market

At EuroShop 2014, the two building towers of our trade fair stand were not only a visual highlight, but also represented our two focal points, namely system and trade fair construction in the international sector. To show the wide range of design possibilities, one tower was clad with sails and the second with wood. Here, among others, the SYMA-XWALL, SYMA-TEXWALL and the SYMA-CUBIC were presented as new products.

    2017 – We build inspiration

On the occasion of our new corporate identity (CI), we presented the new claim “We build inspiration” three years later. At individual theme tables, we showed the new developments of our CI and also took a look back at our long history here.

    SYMA at the EuroShop 2017

The last EuroShop 2020 was all about modern materials, such as glass and light. Here we presented our new solution for glass parapets and seamless shoring of glass surfaces, as well as our future-oriented SYMA-XWALL lighting with future-oriented light carpet.

Finally, EuroShop is back! Every three years, the world’s largest retail trade fair transforms the event area in Düsseldorf into an El Dorado for the retail industry. What makes the trade fair so great, why it is a special highlight for SYMA and what you can expect in 2023, we have summarized for you here.

    What is EuroShop?

The trade fair has been held in Düsseldorf since 1966 and attracts an international trade audience from all over the world to Germany every 3 years. Anyone looking for the latest products, technologies and presentation options in the retail sector has come to the right place. In the early years of its history, EuroShop focused mainly on shopfitting, window dressing, refrigerated display cases and cash registers, but now offers a wide range of thematic areas, which until 2014 was divided into four independent subsections:

    1. EuroConcept:Everything about store design, shopfitting and furnishings, lighting and building technology, flooring, refrigerated display cases and refrigeration systems.
    1. EuroSales:Merchandising, POS and visual marketing are the focus here.
    1. EuroCIS:The latest news onIT and security technology.
    1. EuroExpo:With a focus on exhibition stand construction, design and events.

Starting in 2017, they adapted this concept to current trends and instead created seven experience dimensions, ranging from PoP Marketing and Retail Technology to Expo & Event Marketing, Lighting, Visual Merchandising, Shop Fitting & Store Design and Food Tech & Energy Management.

The presentation of innovations, technology and new products is at the forefront of all areas and gives the audience a valuable head start when it comes to know-how on the latest retail topics. With around 2,300 exhibitors over five days of the fair, there is guaranteed to be plenty to see and do.

    Euroshop 2020

In addition to the extensive range of exhibitors, a supporting program with specialist presentations and conferences provides supplementary information opportunities. In addition, various awards, including those for retail design and science, will also be presented at EuroShop.

SYMA and the EuroShop – a long-standing relationship

For SYMA, EuroShop has a very special significance, because this year’s edition will be our 18th – we have not missed an opportunity since 1972. The trade show is still the most important platform for our company to present ourselves to the trade audience from now more than 100 countries.

Once again this year, those interested will find endless inspiration, groundbreaking innovation and technology for the future at the SYMA booth. The focus here is: smaller, more concentrated, more sustainable – which is why our booth itself is the largest exhibit on the site. But more should not be revealed at this point, just stop by in person.

What else awaits you at EuroShop 2023

In addition to the large number of exhibitors, the supporting program of the trade fair will again offer the opportunity for even more insights, knowledge exchange and the celebration of the best minds of today on seven stages, in nine areas and at six award ceremonies. EuroShop 2023 aims to provide food for thought, present innovations, and connect people around the hot topics of digitization, sustainability, climate neutrality, and many more.

For example, the area “THINK SUSTAINABLY – ACT RESPONSIBLY” offers space for joint reflections and best-practice examples on how event appearances can be made more sustainable. The special “ROOM4SENSES” area is also worth a visit and takes you on a sensory journey: In four rooms, visitors can focus entirely on one sensory perception each and experience how this can affect us in a sales context.
